I noticed some writing on the side of the object, pictured in the "Investigative Drawing" section of this blog. I translated as best I could.
"May he who has the might of Thor bear this weapon." This further supports my theory that the hammer itself is Thor's hammer! If I'm right, this could change the Viking world as we know it.
